The Rains came down and the Floods went up...

Our King must have something Hugh in store for our team, that’s the only conclusion I can come up with as to why we/the Island are being hit with so many trials right now.

Culture shock has set in for most of us, at least for me anyways, and the little things from home are being missed more and more. The use of internet is one thing that comes to mind, a teammate of mind is struggling to get her house being sold and dealing with banks issues, not a fun thing to do anyways but take away the use of internet and it’s even more frustrating. She is also recovering from Malaria, she is on the mend and doing just fine, but the stress of being sick is never fun. Most of you know about E, who is recovering from surgery on his ankle. There was a minor complication with some inflection that set in but it was removed with more surgery and he got a good report from the doctor.

The Evil one has been attacking our kids here as well. If you know me, you know I have a BIG spot for kids and missing the little ones from home so badly. Evil is attacking the kids in their bedrooms; the kids have been hearing things and sometimes seeing things. We as a team have been on our knees that whatever is trying to scare the boys and cause problems between them will leave the house alone. These 2 sweet “Scotsman” boys have me wrapped around their fingers, reminding me of some boys I love very dearly at home. With one word I was taking, APPLE! I was giving the nickname “Apple” the first week here, something to do with the way I was wearing my hair at the time or at least that’s what they tried to explain to me. Their mom is also recovering from Malaria.

As I am writing you the sun is beginning to pop out and greet us for the first time in a week or so but it is STILL RAINING. I never heard or seen thunder and lightning so bad in all my life, enough to make us girls curl up in the bed together and yarp we get some sleep tonight. We have been on our knees about all this rain we are getting; no one wants to be out in the rain, not even the Islanders. At first it was beach days being put on hold, language walks postponed, kids schools being canceled because of floods and waiting to do errands until it’s our turn for the car.  It wasn’t until we started to see villages being swept away that we realized we should yarp for His will and ask more boldly for the RAIN to STOP!

First let me tell you that WE ALL ARE FINE! Yesterday one of our teammates went down from his house to see if he could help. His village is right next to the village that is suffering the most from all this rain. As he began to wade through the streets he told us you can still see people out and about trying to carry on like a normal day. Kids are in the streets, some with parents and some without. He could see men standing around looking at what a mess this rain was causing, yet weren’t talking about what they should do. As he stepped into one of the houses he saw where the water line had been coming into the house, about 2 ft. deep in some places. Trash is floating everywhere throughout the streets in the village and some houses have already been taken away by all this water. He tried to get some of them to leave with him but they don’t understand how serious this is nor do they want to leave their houses unattended, theft could be a problem. Even today two men from the team are working in the village, trying to help out in any way possible and above all, SHOW HIM to those in need!

This village is the MAIN source of water for the entire ISLAND, and now it’s FLOODED! None of us have ever experience this kind of emergency, none the less we all went out and stocked up on can foods, water and supplies. We are trying to catch as much rain water as we can, because we have been told the water will be turned off for at least a week. Our neighbors were so kind yesterday, they saw we weren’t home to catch water in our buckets and they insisted we take some of theirs.

Boldly ask the KING for this RAIN to STOP, He knows all our needs so He must have a reason for this rain but we are asking for it to stop now…today, in the minute you read this. Thank you for your yarps and support!

Blessings,
<><
P.S. Hoping to meet with the Director of the Hospital next week, yarp for HIS direction and guidance as to what work HE would have for me there. Also, Spiderman is still alive and well. He has a little girlfriend now, Mary Jane, and we are hoping we don’t see little ones soon! I caught my finger in the trap trying to get it ready for them one night…I’m ok….just little sore. I don’t know what’s worst, mashed finger or them in the bed with me…haha, probably the second!
